Big Ideas & Staring at Ceilings

So I’m sitting in the Exclusive Books in Sandton City sipping on a cup of finely brewed beans contemplating the past week.

It was a week where a bug decided to spend some quality time getting to know my nervous system better and managed to introduce me to my bed for an extended time.

When you’re flat on your back there is only so much time the ceiling and light fixtures can amuse you. After that your mind starts wondering around it’s depths planning and plotting how you’re going to take over the world once you’re running around again.

And one of the Big Ideas I had was to start a blog.

It’s been marinating in my grey matter for a while.

I’ve read how blogs are taking over the world. How people love reading them. How they’re great for driving traffic to a website.

How they are a must have.

But I’ve always wondered: “Who would like to sit and read other people’s thoughts? More to the point who would like to read my thoughts?”

I suppose it’s like reality TV for the Net.

And let’s face it who doesn’t like a good dose of Survivor or The Apprentice?

It’s a guilty pleasure but I can’t think of anything much better than being curled up on a couch with my beautiful wife, some Flings, the remote control firmly embedded in my right paw and The Donald saying “You’re Fired!” while trying to look gruff in his pink tie.

Strange I know - yet astonishingly captivating…

So the point of this blog is to share my thoughts regarding striving towards a successful company, website and life.

Now before you start clamouring: “Gian you arrogant schmuck! How can you claim you have a successful everything!”

I’m not claiming that. I’m on the journey just the same as you are. I’ve had my successes and I’ve had my failures. And even the failures have been successes because they’ve shown me what to run away from.

Also let me just say that I attribute none of the successes I’ve had to myself. I believe the simple reason things are good is because of one thing: God.

I’ve been blessed and I’m cool with that.

And in being blessed I’ve learnt some stuff that I’m sure you can use.

If you can’t then dust this blog off your internet shoes and don’t come back – I honestly won’t take it personally ;-)

Different strokes and all that…

The point I’m trying to make is that while I don’t even come close to knowing it all, I have learnt some stuff about creating succesful websites over the past 7 years of being involved with Afrihost that I want to share and that I sincerely hope will help you out.

Some of the stuff may be useless to you but I guarantee you that there will be some gems that you can take, polish and make shine for you.

In my next post I’m going to go into the next ‘Big Idea’ I had while fighting the bug. This Idea deals with how we at Afrihost can automatically help each of our clients to do better on Search engines and get linked quickly.

Do you think you could use that?
